While no accused should be found guilty of a crime which he/she did not commit, it is incumbent on the Criminal Justice System to ensure that no crime goes unpunished. In this respect, justice has not been done and the family of Michaela McAreavey and her loved ones should rest assured that the hearts of all Mauritians are with them and that the authorities would make every effort to bring the perpetrator(s) to justice....

Les familles Harte et Mc Areavey disent être “dévastées et anéanties” après le verdict de la cour d’assises innocentant Avinash Treebhowon et Sandeep Mooneea. Dans un communiqué émis à la presse, vendredi, elles écrivent que justice n’a pas été rendue 18 mois après le meurtre de Michaela.

Le verdict est tombé en cour d’assises jeudi soir. Les neuf membres du jury ont prononcé à l’unanimité l’acquittement d’Avinash Treebhowon et de Sandeep Mooneea. Les deux employés de l’hôtel Legends inculpés du meurtre de l’Irlandaise Michaela Harte sont, désormais, des hommes libres.

Two hotel workers have been cleared of murdering honeymoon bride Michaela McAreavey in her luxury hotel suite on the paradise island of Mauritius.

Accompagné de sa sœur Claire et de son avocat, Me Dick Ng Sui Wa, le veuf de Michaela Harte, John James McAreavey s’est rendu dans les locaux de la brigade criminelle de Port-Louis Sud, aux Casernes centrales, mardi après-midi. Les limiers l’ont convoqué en marge d’une déposition faite par Me Ravi Rutnah en relation avec un DVD contenant des extraits d’une caméra de surveillance de l’hôtel Legends où la victime avait posé ses bagages avec son époux pour leur lune de miel....
