Al-Shifa Trust Eye Hospital, Mauritius ministry sign MoU
Al-Shifa Trust Eye Hospital, Rawalpindi, Pakistan has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Ministry of Health of Mauritius to collaborate in eye-care services under which Al-Shifa Trust will train doctors and paramedics from Mauritius in various fields of eye-care and to provide eye-care services to Mauritius patients, says a press release.
A team of Al-Shifa Trust doctors headed by Professor Wajid Ali Khan and comprising Professor Nadeem Qureshi, Dr Sultan Asif Kiani and Dr Shahzad Iftikhar has been visiting Mauritius and have been examining patients and conducting difficult eye surgeries for the past five years. During their stay in Mauritius, they also train local doctors and paramedics and deliver lectures to Mauritius ophthalmologists on voluntary basis with the idea of promoting a positive image of Pakistan.
The visiting Al-Shifa team has so far examined over 2,000 patients and conducted 250 complicated surgeries in Mauritius free of charge and this effort has been appreciated highly by the government and people of Mauritius. To make this activity more productive and official, the Al-Shifa Trust Eye Hospital and Mauritius Ministry of Health signed the accord during a recent visit of the Pakistani doctors.
Professor Wajid Ali Khan, dean and chief consultant, and Mauritius Minister for Health L Bundhoo signed the accord on behalf of the Al-Shifa Trust and Mauritius government, respectively. After signing the accord, the two sides hoped that it would not only strengthen already existing good relations between Pakistan and Mauritius but would also help in promoting more people-to-people contacts.
