Blog: Poor Lawyer and even poorer Politician

Some time after his resignation from the government along with his yes men and women, Pravind Jugnauth, in an act of bravado, stated that he was waiting firmly for the ICAC to summon him if that institution had the guts to do so. The long awaited day has come. This is not that important for the public because what transpires during the investigation is neither a proof of guilt nor a decision to prosecute. The finding of guilt is left to the courts and the decision to prosecute is left with the DPP. Both the courts and the DPP are independent institutions and cannot be manipulated by the MSM.

Blog: Abortion, the rights of the unborn baby and relative morality

Under the European secular concept of pro-death, a woman’s desire to get rid of her unborn baby has to be accepted. But this should not be the lawmakers’ priority simply because pressure groups want them to legalise abortion in Mauritius. The argument of gender equality is totally irrelevant because the man is not the one who carries the baby. If anything, it is more ‘gender inequality’! However, given the extremely complex nature of the subject, given that women are often victims of sexual violence, given that many women are at risk during pregnancy and at childbirth, and so on, under the concept of relative morality, abortion may be allowed in certain circumstances....

Blog: Labour this Week

In the face of the Medpoint scandal and the turmoil caused by the MSM crossing the floor to join the opposition and Kalyanee Juggoo's public expression of her frustration in not being appointed minister, Prime Minister Navin Ramgoolam and the Labour party, slowly but steadily not only controlled the damage but presented a larger view and a bigger picture of the situation....

Blog: Helping Secondary Schools in Difficulty

The bane of our system of education lies in the megalomania of those who manage it without accountability. Even if reports of evaluation are galore, there is no action taken to improve the system. We lack the courage and capacity to examine ourselves and recognize our weaknesses....

Blog: Johnny and Crétin - a mad obsession

At present there is a great apprehension that Greece may default on her debt payments. The economy of the United States is almost at a standstill. The projection of the growth rate in Europe, one of our major trade partners, is less than 2%. In that context the markets are very volatile and the share index of the USA and that of Europe have been playing yoyo. People in Mauritius seem to be totally indifferent to the trend of the global economy and more especially the rather alarming trend in Europe....

Blog: L’Express misinterprets defamation law relating to government institutions to protect Paul Bérenger

Through its journalist Iqbal Kalla, L’Express’s attempt to defend Paul Bérenger’s alleged diffusion of false news and criminal defamation against PM Ramgoolam, presently under police investigation, through misinterpretation of the law is unacceptable. If a government institution is the aggrieved party, contrary to what l’Express is trying to convey, the law of defamation is not excluded although the institution (or organisation) « has to show that a defamatory article in a newspaper refers to it as such, not just to individuals associated with it »....

Blog: Fascism - You said?

In a radio interview recently, explaining the defeat of the MMM at the last general election, Paul Berenger, leader of the MMM and the opposition made a very serious and very dangerous accusation against the MBC. He said that MBC used fascist methods against the MMM during the last general election campaign. Thus becoming the second main factor responsible for his defeat, the first being money power to buy votes....

Blog: A sick Limb of a weak Body

The MMM invention of the prevocational stream was well intentioned but very poorly implemented. This stream was sheltered in state secondary schools together with mainstream Form 1 students, made to share uniforms, teachers, Rector but doomed to suffer from all as unworthy heirs of a of a recalcitrant parent.

Blog: Do you have a mentor?

You will probably not remember, but when you were a baby, your parents helped you to learn walking by holding your hands, helped you to learn biking and swimming, and in many other areas of your young life. If you are not remembering, they will remember how many why questions you were asking. This is because, like all young boys and girls, you are eager to learn!...

Pravind Jugnauth ‘impatient’ to be summoned by ICAC

Blog: Medpoint - Red herrings to distract from those truly responsible

Following Pravind Jugnauth’s warped reasoning, if a Labour Minister is charged under PoCA, all Labour MPs should similarly resign in solidarity with suspected corruption and cross over to the opposition because of the alleged « manère de faire » of ICAC. What nonsense! The MedPoint  « tainted » government transaction stinks of conflict of interests not of Rajesh Jeetah’s making....

Blog: A Legend about a questionable Loyalty

Moral lesson: Morality is an ambivalent guide. Perspective makes it either good or evil. The sighting of the moon in Islam

Blog: The end of Ramadaan and the sighting of the moon

As Muslims around the world have been fasting during the holy and purifying month of Ramadaan, all Muslims look forward to the end of the fasting period, the celebrations of Eid-ul-Fitr for the peace reached with Allah and with humanity, the creation of Allah according to Islamic teachings and beliefs. Islam means surrender, submission to the Creator of the Worlds through and in the achievement of peace. Islam was sent not only to certain tribes or people, but to the whole of humanity in a spirit of brotherhood and sisterhood, in a spirit of sharing, especially with the orphans, the poor and the needy. But before Muslims can celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr, the sighting of the moon with one’s plain eyes is important in spite of the fact there are scientific calculations which specify the exact time as to the appearance of the moon....

Blog: Debauchery of the civil servant

Mauritius should pride itself over having a brood of civil servants who rise above the common run known in Africa and Asia. Both African and Asian civil service distinguish themselves by its obsequious attitude to the political master because Ministers wield a lot of connection power, power to influence other politicians so that they feel they are trapped in a nexus of relationships where sycophancy is equated with advancement....

« Au voleur! au voleur! à l'assassin! au meurtrier! Justice, juste Ciel! je suis perdu, je suis assassiné, on m'a coupé la gorge, on m'a dérobé mon argent. ... C’en est fait, je n’en puis plus ; je me meurs, je suis mort, je suis enterré. » (Molière, L’Avare, acte IV, scène 7)....
